Hippy Happy Hoppy Day

It comes every year. It passes by every year. It is just like any other day but it is a very special day because you are the centre of attraction on this day and you are spoiled. During your school days, on this day all the girls in your class become your friend. As years progress, and you meet more people and make more friends, on this day every year you get loads of cards, presents, phone calls, text messages, facebook messages. Your near and dear ones plan a surprise party and they utter prayers and good wishes for you. So there are so many good things about this special day but the only not so good thing about this day is that this day spoils your AGE. On this day every year you turn a year older. Not that I am disappointed or afraid of growing old but its just scary to note how time flies and yet there are sooooooooo many things to experience and achieve in life. Despite this and all the ups and downs of life, I absolutely love my life and I love everyone in my life.

Today is my nth birthday. Time has flown by so quickly. But that is life . Time has a very strange way of passing you by. Seconds turn into minutes, minutes turn into hours, hours turn into days, days turn into years, years turn into decades. Yet in hindsight it would seem like everything flew by. And amidst this flight of time, we achieve so many things, we experience so many things and we pass some small, some huge milestones. My blog has passed a huge milestone today. Yay to the 100Th post!!!!!!!!!!!!

p.s. May I take this opportunity to humbly THANK YOU all for stopping by my page awhile, reading my posts and leaving your valuable comments. Your kind words are forever appreciated and your company is cherished as priceless.

Innocence Personified

I LOVE ICE CREAM BECAUSE......
...
  • It is cold
  • It is sweeeeeeeeeet
  • It melts and sticks to my hands and mouth
  • I will fall ill and I can stay with YOU (referring to Mother) at home.
These were the words of a three year old boy that I overheard when I was at the ice cream stall in the shopping mall this afternoon. Oh, what an innocent reasoning! The little boy's mother had to buy him an ice cream after listening to that.

Fultu Bakwaas - Jab Din Me Neend Aa Jaaye.....

......Tab Raat Ki Neend Ud Jaaye
...
Yes, when 'some people' spend some part of their day sleeping, then they have trouble falling asleep at night. What do 'such people' do then?
  • To begin with they go to bed way past their usual bedtime and then lie down with their eyes shut tightly.
  • Then they twist and turn and change their positions and also hold a pillow pressing tightly against their face.
  •  Next, they check the time to see how long it has been since they tucked into bed.
  •  Then they decide to watch some Telly but soon they get bored of it.
  •  Then they decide to read some book but as they cannot concentrate, they give up the idea of reading.
  •  Then they decide to browse the Internet for sometime.
  •  Next, they ping some friend in the other part of the world who is online but soon they realise that the friend has got other important things to do. So they leave the chat.
  •  Then they log into facebook and check out their friends' recent photos.
  •  They realise that spending time on facebook is almost like sleeping and therefore decide to spend some more time on facebook by commenting and 'liking' their friends' status messages and updates, that are albeit 10 or 12 hour old.
  •  Then they decide to read some blog  posts during which time they realise that a post is long overdue on their page and therefore decide to write a blog post.
  •  But ideas do not flash them at God earthly hours, so they spend some time staring at the blank page and ultimately end up writing about their sleepless night.
  • Once they publish the post, they realise that it is morning (yay!!) but by then they experience some dizzy spells. So they pick up their phone, select their office telephone number and call in sick!!! After that they retire to bed........

Gaana Aaye Ya Na Aaye.....

Gaana Chaahiye....
...
Last weekend two of my friends, Rachana and Rohit celebrated their 6th wedding anniversary. The couple invited a few of us to their house for a party. The party was great fun. At one point during the party, Rachana requested that Rohit sing a song for her. After initial hesitation, finally Rohit sang one of Mohammed Raffi's classic songs - 'Teri Pyaari Pyaari Soorath Ko, Kisi Ki Nazar Na Lagey....'' .  As Rohit started singing, all the girls in the room went awwwwww......and the men just kept cheering for Rohit. Rachana said Rohit's song meant more than his presents for her. Once again all of us went aww........

It was indeed an awww...moment and all of us thought that Rohit sings slightly better than Himesh Reshammiya! If Himesh can sell records, so can Rohit if he wants to!! We pulled Rohit's leg but also commended him for keeping Rachana's request and more importantly for singing it from his heart for his beloved.

Later that afternoon when Rachana was in the kitchen preparing evening tea for all of us, Rohit said to us, '' Thank you for putting up with my 'besura' aawaaz'. I just had one thing to say to Rohit - Biwi Ki Baaton Ko Nahi Taalna..Chahiye. Gaana Aaye Ya Na Aaye, Gaana....Chahiye!

Chuv Chuv Chiv Chiv.......

 Chuv Chuv Chiv Chiv...
Chuv Chuv Chiv Chiv....
...
Ever since the spring has sprung, each morning, I have been waking up to the melodious CHUV CHUV CHIV CHIV of the birds on the trees just outside my bedroom. I do not need the alarm clock anymore because like clockwork, the chuv chivs start at about 4am and go on throughout the day. The chirps even continue into the night for up until 12ish or a little beyond that.

There is a certain pattern in the musical riffs of the birds and I find it very melodious. Each morning, I get elated happiness as I look outside my bedroom window at the clear blue endless sky, bright shining sun, swaying flowers, bees and the birds perched in the branches of the trees singing chuv chuv chiv chiv. At the end of a long tiring day, it is the the sweet lullaby of the birds that lulls me to sleep.

The melodious chuv chuv chiv chiv is filled with hopes, inspiration and promise and raises my spirit to new heights. Life is comprised of simple things that hold a magical richness within them. As I conclude this post and get ready to retire to bed for a great night's sleep, I can still hear the CHUV CHUV CHIV CHIV outside my bedroom.............

I Wish I Could Be Like You...

Let your actions inspire others
to dream more, learn more, do more and become more
                                                                 - J.Q.Adams
...

Everyone we meet or may know has something to be admired. People have their own struggles in life that they get through and each person has their own stories about the moments of their life that have shaped them to be like the way they are. Some have a natural presence or something ‘special’ about them that is worthy of admiration.

My friend EM is one such amazing woman. I have always looked up to her. She is so driven, has so much of positivity, lot of wisdom and has the ability to put herself in other person’s shoes. She is kind, loving and caring, good at listening and even better at coming up with solutions to handle complex situations. She has had hard times but with her positive attitude she has pulled through.  Developing people is her passion and her personality is so inspiring. Above all, she is just a nice person. The one thing that makes her irreplaceable is that she makes enjoying the ‘little things’ in our lives so easy.

Just few minutes ago EM called me to inform that this evening she handed in her resignation from the post of Service Director at her organisation, to be a homemaker and watch her two little ones grow up. Oh EM, I wish you and your family the best in everything.

Fultu Bakwaas...Bolo Mere Akha

Bolo Mere Akha...Kya Chahiye?
...

Earlier today I decided to clean the lamp in my drawing room of its previous fragrance and restore it with a new fragrance that I purchased other day. As I was cleaning the lamp, I began to wonder, what my three wishes would be if the Genie appeared:

1) I would wish for Genie to do my office work so that I could blog more regularly from the office.

2) I would wish for Genie to give Bollywood directors some original ideas to make good movies that I can watch on Friday evenings.

3) I would wish for thousand wishes. (Teen se mera kya hoga?)

Alas, the Genie did not appear :( . Looks like I rubbed him the wrong way or perhaps the economic recession has hit Genie too and that has put the Genie out of the business of ''appearing and granting wishes'' !

Ayeee..Pakadooo....Pakadooo....Pakad Liyaaa!........I'm It !! You're It !!!.........

Well, I’m it! I have been tagged by Sunil Goswami of I Blog, Therefore I Am! The basic rules of Sunil’s tag is that I have to answer honestly the following whacky questions that he has come up with. Here we go…

1.      1) If you could go back in time to relive one moment, what would it be?

How I wish I could go back in time to relive that special ‘Dil Tho Pagal Hai Moment’ of my life !!! Wondering what that means? Let me explain -  in the movie Dil Tho Pagal Hai, Shahrukh asks Madhuri , ''Mujhe Kaise Maaloom Padega Ki Mere Liye Kaun Banaaya Gaya Hai?’’. In reply Madhuri  points to the heaven above and says, ''Woh Mujhe Ek Ishaara Dikhaayega Aur Mera Dil Samajh Jaayega’’. Too filmy and too good to be true in real life, no? But this happened with me.  'Uparwaala' sent me a sign and that is exactly how I first bumped into my 'someone somewhere’. Any day I would like to relive that special mera 'Dil tho pagal hai moment.'

2.      2) If you could go back in time and change one thing, what would it be?

Oh, I certainly would like to go back in time to erase that particular instance when I lost a close friend (girl) for having shared in confidence (???) one of her ‘girly’ secrets with another boy in my class. How naive I was to not know that boys CANNOT keep secrets about girls from other boys.

3.      3) What movie or TV character you think you resemble most in personality?

I can’t think of any TV/movie character that comes even remotely close to my personality but the character I can most identify with is Simran (played by Kajol) from DDLJ.

Both Simran and I belong to a very conservative family and both of us are constantly reminded by our dads to strictly adhere to Indian values. Both Simran and I are obedient daughters and respect our Dad’s principles and will try our best (even if that means giving up on our dreams) to not to hurt our dads’ feelings.  Both Simran and I share a great relationship with our mother and see them more like our best friend. Like Simran, I used to initially approach Amma for permission to go on school trips/excursions. Amma would advise me to speak to Dad and I always had to plead my Dad several times to get him to grant me permission.

The biggest similarity between me and Simran is that both of us believed in our ‘undekha unjaana’ Prince charming and waited for him to walk into our respective lives and sweep us off our feet completely; but..but...I did not go on a month long Eurotrip, and Simran did!

4.      4) What movie or TV character would you really like to be like?

I would love to be like the spirited Maria (played by Julie Andrews) in the movie The Sound of Music. I have always admired Maria for her carefree attitude, ability to spread joy and unconditional love like a child yet possessing a shoulder that balances a mature head.

In my later life, I would love to be like Pooja Malhotra ( played by Hema Malini) of Baghbaan. In my view, she symbolised a Perfect Indian Woman in that role.

5.      5) If you could push one person in the whole world off a cliff and get away with it, who would it be?

To do this, I have to get on top of the cliff myself, don’t I? Sorry, I may not make it to the top of the cliff in the first place, let aone pushing another person.

6.       6) Name one habit you want to change in yourself.

Currenty, I am more childish and less responsible. I want to become more responsible and less childish.

7.      7) Describe yourself in one word.

Indescribable.

8.      8) Describe the person who named you in this meme in one word.

Gentleman.

9.      9) Why do you blog? Answer in one sentence.

I blog to share my Dil Ki Baat.

10.   10) Name at least 3 people to send this meme to then inform them.

1)     All those who read my blog
2)  All those who follow my blog.
3)    All those who comment on my blog

If you’ve just read this post , you’ve been tagged!! YOU'RE IT !!!!!!!!!!!! Pakad Liya...........

11) Link back to the person who tagged you in this meme.

Thank You very much Sunil for the tag. I enjoyed taking part in it.

Very Gooddum!

Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi
Thodi Meethi, Thodi Khatti
Thodi Teekhi, Thodi Pheekee
Phir Bhi Isko Hanskar Jeeneka.....
 Ik Alag Hi Hai Mazaa!
...
Before you start wondering about my post title today, the title is lifted from one of the early episodes of the popular TV serial of the 80s - Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi. I am sure most of you have heard of or watched this serial and you may be aware that the storyline revolved around the funny incidents in the day to day lives of  Ranjit, Renu and Raja played by Shafi Inaamdar, Swaroop Sampath and Rakesh Bedi respectively. The diverse roles played by Satish Shah is beyond praises.

Yesterday was particularly a stressful day in the office. Some of the ‘office politics’ really brought me down.  Talking to a dear friend helped. Just to cheer my mood further, I decided to watch Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi in the evening. I watched one of the early episodes of the serial where Ranjit and Renu let their South Indian neighbours invite a prospective groom and his parents to meet their daughter, at their house. Rakesh Bedi disguises as a renowned astrologer Rajam Shastri to match the horoscopes of the groom and the bride and during the process of matching the horoscopes he uses terminologies such as immediate resultam, fast parinaamam and very gooddum! The episode had me laughing heartily and made me forget all my worries. Thus passed another day. There is always a reason to laugh. Yeh jo hai zindagi – very gooddum!

Mahi Ve......

Mahendra Singh Dhoni - Captain of Indian Cricket team. He is one of my favourite celebrity men. Cricket fanatics in India are full of praises for Dhoni today. Rightly so, at the world cup cricket final today, Dhoni rose to the occasion by playing a masterful innings with complete conviction and confidence to lead India to a sensational victory.

I have always admired Dhoni for his calm and patient attitude even during those days when he was accused of playing poor cricket and being just a hawker of commercial products.  Dhoni has always presented as a cool, confident and a smart person. He always exudes calmness even under intense pressure whether he is at the crease, behind the wickets, at the presentation stage, or on camera. He never lets the nerves get the better of him. Dhoni believes in himself and exhibits terrific leadership skills. All these qualities have enabled Dhoni to flourish as a great captain for the Indian Cricket team.

After rejigging the batting order today, as Dhoni came to bat, there was lot of pressure on him. Yet he kept his calm and did what he was meant to do and rest is history. A high class performance from a high class leader who leads by example. That’s  the way….Mahi ve!

Fultu Bakwaas - Yeh Andar Ki Baat Hai

Well, it's no longer Andar ki Baat Hai, Is it?
...

Nah, you got that wrong. I am not talking about Rupa but I am talking about sagging jeans. This evening at the traffic light I saw this guy cross the road. His jeans were only slightly above his knees. It had slipped too far from his waist but just enough to show his funky boxers.A lot of guys these days wear those sagging jeans. They think it is cool. But I think it looks hilarious. Have these boys not outgrown the age where their trousers sag?? Then there are some jeans with a faux-boxer band attached to the back of them so it only looks like they're sagging...but not really. Now that is ridiculous. The fad supposedly started in prisons but I think there might have been numerous other reasons behind how this trend originated:

1)      Belts must have failed to serve their purpose
2)      It is time saving as they only need to get the jeans up to their knee length
3)      Perhaps there was shortage of denim materials
4)      Underwears became more fashionable but only Superman is allowed to wear them over his trousers. Rest of them have to wear their jeans around their knees to display their underwears.
5)      Underwears became a medium of advertising.

Whatever may be the reason behind the trend of sagging jeans, It is no longer andar ki baat hai. Aaj kal yeh baahar ki baat ho gayi hai!
